Having a job that feels meaningful and balanced is really important. Library employees often face challenges that impact their well-being. This presentation explores the concept of "languishing" in the library workplace, a state characterized by a sense of emptiness and stagnation, which can detrimentally affect individual and organizational outcomes. Drawing on recent research and practical experiences, this session aims to shed light on the various factors contributing to languishing in library settings, including workload, organizational culture, and the evolving nature of library services.

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify Indicators of Languishing: Participants will learn to recognize signs of languishing in themselves and their colleagues, enabling a proactive approach to addressing well-being concerns in the library workplace.
  2. Explore Contributing Factors: Gain insights into the specific factors within library environments that contribute to feelings of languishing, including workload demands, communication breakdowns, and challenges related to professional growth.
  3. Promote a Culture of Support: Learn how to cultivate a culture of support and open communication within library teams, fostering resilience and preventing burnout.
